In honor of the utter excitement I feel at going to see the new Rohit Shetty film, "Chennai Express" (Starring Deepika Padukone and Shah Rukh Khan), I thought that I would share one of the songs from the film tonight!! DOPE: "Yeh Ladka Hai Allah" from "Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham" (2001)

This week's DOPE post is the highlight of a feel-inducing Hindi movie. And some of you who are familiar with Hindi Movies, you may be wondering if this is obvious. It's not. Really. LOL

I was lucky today, because I managed to find a clip with the English subtitles included. So I hope you all will enjoy two of my faves, Kajol and Shah Rukh Khan in "Yeh Ladka Hai Allah".

DOPE: "Phir Milenge Chalte Chalte" from "Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi" (2008)

"Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi" is a film that I've blogged about in the past (I'm still on the hunt for my little yellow tiffin!) but I've never featured any of the songs in a DOPE post before. Which is odd because I consider it one of my favorite films... I figured today would be the perfect day to remedy this.

I am picking the song sequence that pays tribute to famous Hindi film actors Raj Kapoor, Dev Anand, Rajesh Khanna, Shammi Kapoor and Rishi Kapoor, actresses Nargis, Nutan, Helen, Sharmila Tagore and Neetu Singh, and features cameos by Lara Dutta, Bipasha Basu, Rani Mukerji, Preity Zinta and of course "Cousin" Kajol!

And on a side note, if the male singer sounds familiar to you, that's because it's Akon. Yes, Akon... singing in Hindi! You go, boy! Happy Thanksgiving!!! Once a month, like clockwork.. I take a few hours out of a day (usually on a weekend) to watch "Devdas". And I've chosen today to watch, as it's my first day off since starting the new job!!

It's a film that really transports you with it's beauty. And Devdas is also a unique film for me, because it's the one movie I love starring Shah Rukh Khan, where I don't like Shah Rukh in it!! Most of the time, I wanted to smack Devdas Cher-style! LOL

To me, Devdas is all about the phenomenal women in it: Madhuri Dixit, Aishwarya Rai, and Kirron Kher. These ladies make the film for me, and today's dope song is a reflection of Ash and Madhuri at their finest. Wanna Wanna Wednesday... My 35th Birthday Wish List

Happy Halloween, Lovely Friends!! The most exciting thing about the end of October/beginning of November is that my birthday is rapidly approaching! I cannot believe I am turning 35 years old this year! I still feel like a teenager most of the time... which I haven't determined yet if that's a good thing or a bad thing, to be quite honest! LOL

As is my usual custom, there are a couple of items I'd love to have for the big 3-5 this year, so today's Wanna Wanna Wednesday is very special as it contains my Top 5 Birthday Wish List!!!

              

Joe Brown's Fur Collar Coat  Years and years ago, I had a very similar coat that I scored from Tar-jay, and it's regrettably waay too big for me now. So the fact that I stumbled across this coat seems like the most delicious kismet. It's meant to be, I tells ya!! LOL

Tickets for "Jab Tak Hai Jaan" on November 13th  I've been wanting to see this movie for most of the year, and when it was announced that it was releasing a few short days after my birthday I knew that part of my birthday celebration will have to include me droolin... I mean watching Shah Rukh Khan in this film.

As an added bonus, I recently discovered that the Madame Tussaud's in Times Square has a Bollywood section (including an SRK wax statue), so perhaps I will make a night of it by going to see the film and then head over to Madame Tussaud's to see the statues up close! Add dinner at a great Indian restaurant to the agenda, and my night would be MADE!! LOL

In honor of the 17th birthday of "Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge" (This past Saturday, October 20th), today's DOPE post is probably the most catchiest tune from the film. This week's post is also very special, and is dedicated to the memory of Mr. Yash Chopra, who passed away this weekend. Anyone who has ever rented or viewed a Hindi film under the YRF banner has this passionate man to thank for the (no doubt) beautiful film they watched. Condolences and gratitude for the Chopra family for allowing us to remember and share our love with them.

Wanna Wanna Wednesdays... Suri's Yellow Tiffin Box

Whenever I watch the Hindi film "Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi" (which is quite often, I own and love the film), I always walk away from viewing it with two very unique (non-SRK related) cravings:

1) I always have a powerful yen for toast after watching that movie. Those of you who have watched it will know what I mean, that toast Surinder (Shah Rukh Khan's character) eats looks damn good!! Nice and crunchy!! Yummmmm!

2) I always... ALWAYS say to myself, "I want a bright yellow tiffin box like Suri has!!!" after watching the movie.

And since I can't get that exact piece of toast Shah Rukh is eating (Because, yuck.. it would be all moldy and gross by now, don't you think?), the tiffin box seemed like a craving I could (Hopefully) gratify with little difficulty. So I searched the seven seas (of the internet), and even ventured into several Asian markets in NYC in the hopes of getting my hands on one.

Sadly... I couldn't find a tiffin box exactly like Suri's, but I did manage to find one very very similar!!

This Three-tiered, latched tiffin ($21.25, Happy Tiffin) is the perfect "Yellow Suri" color I've been looking for, and you cannot beat the price at all!!! I think that with this little baby, come lunch time I will be singing "Haule Haule" like CRAZY!! LOL

DOPE: "Darwaza Band Karlo" from "Darr" (1993)

"Darr" is probably one of the funniest films I have ever seen in Hindi cinema.... and ::whispers:: the movie isn't supposed to be all that funny! If there was a market for a Bollywood movie-style Mystery Science Theatre 3000 out there, I swear my sister Marcy and I would make a million dollars off of our commentary watching this film! I might do a post on my new Bollywood Tumblr blog about some of our riffs on this film... 

I say I enjoy this movie because I like to riff on it (I swear if I ever saw Sunny Deol on the street, I might possibly scream out "Suniiiiiiiiiiiiiil!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" to see if he comes running)....  but the truth of the matter is I love Shah Rukh when he's crazy in films!! LOL

That being said, for a not-very-romantic movie (As I said ,SRK plays a creepy sexy stalker guy again... which you can tell from his face, an expression I have dubbed the "Crazy Rahul Face"!), this film has some of the sweetest, romantic songs! For example, the song during Holi, "Ang Se Ang Lagana" (which I may feature in a future post) and today's song, "Darwaza Band Karlo"... Sunny Deol and Juhi Chawla are SOOO adorable together in this!!!

I could not find the lyrics (Hindi lyrics courtesy of Hindisongs.net) with the English translations ANYWHERE, so because I am especially fancy.. I actually transcribed the translations from my DVD... which involved a lot of pausing and typing. Feel free to "ooh" and "ahh" over my fanciness! LOL

DOPE: "Atara Baras Ki" from "Anjaam" (1994)

How do I begin to describe the beautiful and marvelous buffet of WTF-ness that is the movie Anjaam?!? It's like [INSERT "Creepy Stalker Guy Movie" HERE] meets "Kill Bill". In the midst of all this "huh?"-city, there you will find today's DOPE song. And I love this movie for this song and for Ms. Madhuri Dixit. NO ONE in Hindi cinema can dance like this woman... and if you disagree, I will fight you! LOL

Now the lyrics in the DVD I own are vastly different than the lyrics I'm including. The DVD lyrics make the song sound like the Hindi version of "No Scrubs"... These lyrics, while similar, are a bit more formal, which makes the song sound like the cheeriest song about attempted rape ever... Which only adds to the "What thuh....?"-atitude of the whole picture.

BY THE WAY: Shah Rukh plays the creepy stalker dude in this.This is why he is crying and looking like he's never seen a woman before in the video. ::Whispers:: Is it wrong that I LOVE when he plays crazy?!?!? LOL
