Music Therapy with Miss Moon

I have no regrets in my life. I think that everything happens to you for a reason. The hard times that you go through build character, making you a much stronger person.”
~ Rita Mero

" I never regret anything. Because every little detail of your life is what made you into who you are in the end. "
~ Drew Barrymore"

" Forget regret, or life is yours to miss."
~ Jonathan Larson

What is it about birthdays that makes one suddenly introspective? I guess it's because we're entering a new phase in our lives with each birthday, and it's only natural to reflect on where you've gone just as much as where you're going.

Such is the case with me this past weekend. I spent a lot of time thinking about my past and about the pivotal moments that have shaped me.. for the good and bad. I thought a lot about the mistakes I've made, and what's astonishing to me is that for most of them choices I've made... I'd make them again. There are a few exceptions to that, but for the most part... Yeah, I'd take the same steps. Why? Because they've made me who I am... and I happen to think I'm pretty damn alright.

When thinking about writing about this for Music Therapy with Miss Moon, Corinne Bailey Rae was the first person I thought of. So here's "I'd Do It All Again".

Ooh, you’re searching for something I know,
won’t make you happy
Ooh, you’re thirsting for something I know,
won’t make you happy
Ooh, you did it all again, you broke another skein
It’s hard to believe this time, hard to believe
That my heart, my heart’s an open door
You got all you came for, baby
So weary, someone to love is bigger than your pride’s worth
Is bigger than the pain you got for it hurts
And out runs all of the sadness
It’s terrifying, life, through the darkness

And I’d do it all again, I’d do it all again
I’d do it all again, I’d do it all again
You try sometimes but it won’t stop
You got my heart and my head’s lost, ooh yeah
I’ve been burning down these candles for love, for love
So weary, someone to love is bigger than your pride
Ooh, someone to love, mm, someone to love
Someone to love
Ooh, you’re searching for something I know,
won’t make you happy
Ooh

Music Therapy with Miss Moon

Today is a super-dreary, rainy Monday in New York City. Aren't they the worst? Especially after a weekend that went by entirely too quickly!

Picture from my office window... Bleh, right?
I don't know about you, but I could definitely use a sweet escape right about now. Heard this song for the first time this weekend and fell promptly in love. I thought it would be a great Music Therapy with Miss Moon song for a day like today.

I hope you all will think so, too!. Here is Corinne Bailey Rae's "Paris Nights/New York Mornings".

A Little [CORINNE BAILEY RAE] for a Saturday Night

Every once and awhile... I have to play a little grown folks music on a Saturday night... I heard this song for the first time this week and knew instantly that this was the song I am going to play!!!

Had a fabulous day seeing Cody ChesnuTT live at Weeksville Heritage Center here in Brooklyn (blog to come), hanging out with my honey, my BFF and her honey... after the show we headed over to Frank's Lounge in Ft. Greene for a couple of drinks... so I am nice and mellow... and groovin' big time on this jam by Corinne Bailey Rae, "Closer"... enjoy your Saturday night, folks!!
