I SWEAR I'm not Obsessed (But I AM a Little Dorky) About....

My fabulous facial regimen, courtesy of Brown Butter Beauty!!

Summers in NYC can be tough on my face. I talked a bit about the horrible prickly heat I experienced last year, which turned my face into an itchy, scaly, dry as the Sahara mess.

Nothing I purchased in the drug stores worked, super expensive facial treatments (which put a serious dent in my then-unemployed wallet) did squat diddly damn, too. I decided to pursue a more natural approach, and thought that I would give Brown Butter Beauty's facial products a try.

One year later, these adorable brown bottles are all that adorn my sink! Wow... what a difference! It's June, I sweat up a storm roaming the streets and at the gym, and (knocks wood) I've had no signs of prickly heat! And I've noticed that my skin has fewer breakouts and looks much much healthier. And though I am a fairly young 35, I also like the fact that my face has a much more youthful glow to it!

I start each morning by washing my face with the Botanical Cleansing Cream ($12.00). Just 2-3 pumps will be more than enough to get your face clean, fresh, and feeling fabulous. I was admittedly leery about using a cream cleanser, but I did not know what I was missing!

After cleansing, I apply a bit of the Fresh Face Cream Moisturizer ($12.00). A little definitely goes a long way with this stuff. I gently put a bit on my finger tip and dot my face and neck before smoothing into my skin. My skin is normally very dry, and my face is not exception. I love that my face feels just as soft and full of moisture hours later than it does after I just apply it.

In the evening, I repeat the process before going to bed. Twice a day, everyday, these 2 ounce jars give me about 3 months of healthy, happy skin!! You couldn't ask for better!

Wash.... Moisturize... Finished Product
(We are going to ignore my 30+ day old gel manicure and my desperate need of an eyebrow waxing... Agreed? )
If you haven't tried these fabulous face duo from Brown Butter Beauty, what are you waiting for? Check em out!

I SWEAR I'm Not Obsessed (But I AM a Little Dorky) About...

Oyin Handmade's Burnt Sugar Pomade!!!!!

One of the highlights of my evenings for the past few weeks (since buying the 4 oz. sample jar) has been coming home and taking a bit of this delicious concoction and putting it in my hair before braiding it in my two trusty braids for the night.

In the morning, my hair is softer and shinier... which is a feat because it is COLD and WINDY here in New York. My hair usually struggles to regain luster and sheen during winter months, and come spring, my hair is hanging on for its life. So far this winter (which in my opinion has been the COLDEST in years!!!), my hair is defiantly telling Jack frost to "Bring it, Baby!"

Not my sexiest photo, but I am in ready-for-bed mode here! LOL

Burnt Sugar Pomade is a blend of oils, butters, and veggie waxes that acts as a humectant and protectant for hair, so you know it increases the shine and locks in moisture ( AMUST NEED during "Brrrrr...." season!) It's packed with essential fatty acids to nourish the scalp, and absorbs easily with a long lasting, non-greasy feeling.

That's on the surface, but we all know that what's inside is what counts:

Contains virgin coconut cream, mango oil, and hempseed oil in a base of nourishing castor oil. Fragranced with a subtly sweet vanilla-sugar scent that is appropriate for both men and women.....

And now, let me say a few words about the SMELL....

If this product did NOTHING AT ALL for my hair... I would still use it just to perfume my hair!!! When I first received my jar, I spent the day opening it and sniffing it repeatedly. LOL

I am really looking forward to warmer weather, and I do believe I have found a replacement for my summer braid-out product (Kizzy "Stay Put" Hair Pomade by Carol's Daughter). I will be sure to post my results then!!!

In the meantime, I will be placing an order for a couple 8 oz. jars this time.... and maybe a 4 oz. jar, just to keep on my desk! But I SWEAR I'm not Obsessed!!! LOL

I SWEAR I'm not Obsessed (But I AM a Little Dorky) About....

THIS...... HANDBAG.......

Can you all believe that I have not purchased a single handbag since my Quest for *THE* Bag almost a year ago? No Jive!!

I decided to go on a handbag fast after that, because I found myself with a closet of handbags that I was NOT using. Last spring, many of the bags were donated and I avoided temptation with no slip ups (I didn't even get any of the bags after my back went out!!!).... until today! LOL

I spotted this beauty on the arm of a woman at the Tracy Reese and JRT Multimedia “Shop for a Cause” event in NYC, featured on Essence Magazine Online.

This beautiful bag is from Coach, and sadly, that's all I know about it. I have a sinking suspicion that it's one of their "Audrey" bags, and that kinda seals the deal for me. I mean, if the bag, LITERALLY has my name attached it is.... I must find out! And I must have this bag. So I hereby crack this bottle of Absolute Brooklyn on the side of this blog and christen Quest for *THE* Bag 2011!! LMAO

Any information you may have about this bag, please leave a comment or shoot me a line!

I SWEAR I'm not Obsessed (But I AM a Little Dorky) About....

Season Three of HBO's True Blood, which premieres June 13, 2010!!!

When "True Blood" first aired, I was up in Corning, sans-cable, and my FaceBook wall and Twitter feed were full of my friend's thoughts about the show. Suffice to say that once Chris and I came to Brooklyn, one of the first things I did was check out Season One on HBO on Demand... just in time to catch up for Season Two... and I was hooked!!! LOL

Season Three from the trailer looks like it's going to be OFF THE HOOK!!!! I cannot wait!!! But I SWEAR... I'm not Obsessed!! LOL

I SWEAR I'm not Obsessed (But I AM a Little Dorky) About....

Oh, hella... who am I kidding? I am TOTALLY obsessed with what I call *The* handbag. It has become an obsession of mine that has me searching the four corners of the Universe (well, the four corners of the Internet) to find.

Of course I first saw the bag on "Girlfriends"*....

*I got the picture by pausing the DVD and using my BlackBerry. Ghetto as hell, I know.. but you get the idea! LOL

So far, I've discovered that *The* Bag is from Gucci and that its a black leather horsebit hobo. Now, with that information, I know that there is NO WAY IN HELL I will be rocking the same bag anytime soon (I am hardly a lawyer-turned-restaurateur), but it has become my new mission to find a reasonable facsimile for someone making Customer Service Representative money! LOL

I've decided to chronicle my search with a new blog post called ::::drumroll, please::::: Quest for *THE* Bag.. so this entry is actually a crossover blog, as it's a "I SWEAR I'm not Obsessed" and also the first entry for Quest for *THE* Bag... Hooray! My first crossover!!!

In my search, I discovered a better picture of what I think is *THE* Bag, courtesy of Jessica Simpson and the folks at CelebrityArmCandy.com --

Of course any information any of my readers have that will lead me closer to *THE* Bag for insanely cheap (or an insanely identical knock off) would be greatly appreciated!!!!!!!!

I SWEAR I'm not Obsessed (But I AM a Little Dorky) About....

Violet Stars Happy Hunting By Janelle Monae....

I've been taking the bus to work the past few weeks. I find it a much better morning commute than the pushing pulling cursing on the subway. So I get up a half an hour earlier and I get to sit, listen to my iPod and just chill on the bus to the city.

One of my favorite games is to put my iPod on Shuffle and just enjoy the surprise of whatever song plays next as I ride. When Violet Stars Happy Hunting comes on (and it usually does every other day) it's a WRAP!! That song is put on repeat until I take my iPod out my ears at my desk at work! LOL

The lyrics are just so vivid and imaginative and her voice is so quirky and beautiful.. this song is such an amazing breath of fresh air to me.

But I SWEAR I'm not Obsessed (But I AM a Little Dorky) about this song!

I SWEAR I'm not Obsessed (But I AM a Little Dorky) About....

I've admittedly been talking a lot about Miss Tracee Ellis Ross lately, and I assure you I'm no Stan (Just a Fan!). Like I mentioned in a previous blog, this year I've decided to revamp my personal style and adopted her as my icon. This involves me doing a lot of research, checking out photos of Tracee and noting outfits of hers that I really dug!

I am such a bag addict, and decided when I received my first paycheck that I would go out and get a new purse. One that was inexpensive, stylish and one that I can rock at work and hanging out on the weekends. So after searching all of my favorite websites, not to mention dragging Chris ALL UP AND DOWN Fulton Street...I could not find anything.

I thought to myself, "Maybe it's time to check out Tracee..." and see what handbags she's been spotted with. I immediately google'd pictures of Tracee Ellis Ross and spotted this one that I completely went cuckoo over. This bag is DOOOOOPE!

I seldom look on Lulus.com, primarily because they don't have plus sizes, but I thought to give them a little look-see, and was overjoyed to discover the Big City Handbag in Black.

From Lulu's: Our Big City Handbag in Black will even make your subway ride stylish! With its crinkly faux leather exterior and decorative silver knobs and belt buckles, this bag knows how make you look good. One zip pocket can be found on the front exterior while top of bag zips open to reveal one small zip pocket and two open compartments atop a simple beige lining. Large portfolio pocket with zipper divides the interior. Carry bag by its twin handles or clip on the shoulder strap before you hit the streets. Measures 16" wide, 10" tall, and approximately 4.5" deep. Handles measure 17" long. Man made materials. Imported.

And it was a great bargain @ $48.00 (I shudder to think what TER's bag cost!) so I GOT IT!!! WHOOO HOO! It's currently en route to me, and I will be sure to post pictures when I get it. But really... I SWEAR I'm not Obsessed (But I AM a Little Dorky) about it!!!

Peace from Brooklyn!!!
