Cinema Couture: Love Jones (1997)

In the past, I've blogged about my love of the film "Love Jones", as well as my love of Nia Long's style.... I thought that it was time to merge these two loves, and at the same time, add my third installment of the Cinema Couture series.

As Nina, Nia Long's style was definitely a city casual chic that's perfect for winter.

Dark colors, jeans, boots, wool pea coats, and killer black shades. I decided to put all of these items together and put together an outfit inspired by Nina. Here's what I came up with:

I Wanna Go Shopping with... Nia Long

Nia Long is one of those actresses that always looks SO FLAWLESS that she makes me feel like even a bigger schlub than I normally feel! LOL I mean, did you see her in "The Best Man"?!?!? Not a hair out of place, the eyebrows PERFECTLY arched... she's the ish, take a whiff, man! LOL I definitely want to go on a shopping spree with this sistah... perhaps some of that effortless chic can rub off on me!


I love this look... it would be too much on anyone else, but it's just enough for her!!


L-O-V-E LOVE it!! The hat, the clutch.. not sure about her choice of shoes, but this look is style and a half!!

Hoop Earrings, Beautiful Braids, a soft red lip and a SMILE!! I'm all about that for 2011!



This is what I mean by flawless... if I wore something like this, I'd have lipstick, coffee, and cigarette ash all over it! LMAO

The twins are in full effect in this outfit!! LOL Love that nail polish she's wearing!!!


She manages to rock something I'd wear to do laundry on the red carpet and is WORKING it!!!! I need to add some cuteness to my casual looks.. that's it!!! LOL


The dress, the make up, the jewelry.... she's super shimmery in this ensemble! Love It!!!

Nia Long is one of those woman who always appears flawless. I also admit to having a bit of an obsession with her eyebrows (again.. FLAWLESS!!)...

Her style is definitely worth copying, and her tiny figure shouldn't be a deterrent on my full - figured sistren.

This look is classic, versatile, beautiful... and remarkably easy to duplicate.




I started with the Brietta Dress ($49, B&Lu.com)

Sleeveless, two tone dress consists of heathered cream bodice and denim-looking, black chino skirt. Focal point on bodice is black crochet with netting along neckline to waistline. Two inch empire waist is stretchy black elastic. Dress length hits just above knee. Cotton/poly blend bodice is lightweight, stretchy, and soft. Woven skirt has light sheen and offers some stretch. 70% cotton, 27% poly, 3% spandex. Dry clean only. Made in the USA by b&lu.

I scoured the internet for those DOPE ASS shoes Nia is wearing. Alas, I couldn't find them, but I found these... which is a reasonable facsimile!!



SE Boutique Shawnee Pump ($79.95, DSW)

Edgy meets a lady with this twisted leather pump from SE Boutique. The Shawnee has such exotic details it will jazz up any ensemble.

Finish this up with a pair of silver hoops and a dainty black clutch and you are ready to go!!!
