Music Therapy with Miss Moon

" You are never too old to set another goal or to dream a new dream."
~ C. S. Lewis

" The secret to a rich life is to have more beginnings than endings."
~ Dave Weinbaum

" Whatever you can do, or dream you can, begin it. Boldness has genius, power and magic in it, begin it now."
~ Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

Confession time: About a month ago, I was seriously contemplating deleting Miss Moon's Musings. I knew I wouldn't give up blogging entirely (I still blogged on my Hindi film blog, Black Girl Digs Bollywood), but I felt like I had nothing else to write about here. I wasn't excited about it anymore. No excitement, no inspiration, nothing to share... I thought perhaps the blog had run its course.

Instead of doing something rash like deleting the blog, I decided to step away. No announcements, no "I'll be back...", I just put the blog on an invisible shelf. And I felt HORRIBLY irresponsible about it. But I put aside  the negative feelings I had associated with turning away, convinced that if my relationship with Miss Moon's Musings were to persist, I would be back. There is no shame in starting over after taking time to step back and reflect. There is no shame in making a much-needed redirection, but I was heaping tons of shame on myself or wanting to take a break. I realize the fatal flaw in my thinking, that has been holding me back in terms of this blog, and a lot of things.

I was thinking I was too old (at 35!) to make any type of changes in plans, but that's a crock. I'm old enough to make wise choices from the heart, and young enough to be able to see the journey to completion. There is still ample time!

So for today's song choice for the return of Music Therapy with Miss Moon is from Clare and the Reasons. I hope that "You Got Time" serves as a very important reminder that it is never over until it's over.

Even if you said something so cold
even though you have lies that you told

you got time to turn around and make things right
you got time to turn around and make things right

even if you manipulate us
even if you just caused a big fuss

you got time to turn around and make things right
you got time to turn around and make things right

you got time
you got time
you got time
you got time

even though you just told them goodbye
even though they’re still wondering why

you got time to turn around and make things right
you got time to turn around and make things right

even if you feel badder than bad
even if you got madder than mad

you got time to turn around and make things right
you got time to turn around and make things right

you got time
you got time
you got time
you got time

you got time
you got time
you got time
you got time

Even if you said something so cold
even if you’ve got lies that you told

you’ve got time to turn around and make things right
you’ve got time to turn around and make things right

Even if you feel badder than bad
even if you got madder than mad

you’ve got time to turn around and make things right
you’ve got time to turn around and make things right

you’ve got time
you’ve got time
you’ve got time
you’ve got time

you’ve got time
you’ve got time
you’ve got time
you’ve got time

Even though you made all of them cry

Music Therapy with Miss Moon

" Yesterday is but today's memory, and tomorrow is today's dream."
~ Khalil Gibran

" How am I going to live today in order to create the tomorrow I'm committed to?"
~ Tony Robbins

" Apparently there is nothing that cannot happen today."
~ Mark Twain

When I think about the past few months that have made up the year 2012, it astonishes me how many times I have strayed from the path that will lead me where I want to go and to who I want to be. I've felt unmotivated, I've felt frustrated and I have (for more times than I care to count, franky) put on the well-worn and ragged "Who gives an eff anymore?" uniform.

As has happened several times before, I am finding myself in much better spirits, and have a renewed passion to keep pushing forward until I reach all the goals I've set for myself this year. I will reach my fitness goal by year's end. I will find an awesomely kick-ass job that will be well worth the wait. I will move into my own modest but lovely apartment and will be ringing in 2013 in my own space. And until I achieve all of these goals... I will fight like hell to get them!

I'm discovering that it isn't about the days or weeks that you stray from your path, it's that one moment, that one second you steer yourself back into the right direction. I feel like I'm there again now, and it feels great to be back on the path today. I'm not going to beat myself up about yesterday anymore. I refuse to!

Today's song choice for Music Therapy with Miss Moon is from Bruno Mars (Making his first appearance in the blog), and I was struck at how many of the lyrics echo my feelings on starting over. I hope you all will enjoy "Today My Life Begins", and may it serve as a reminder that for each day we wake up and rise from our beds, we have an opportunity to do something to make something happen. Something that will ultimately make our lives better, brighter, and happier! Seek out that one thing today and embrace it, dear friends, embrace it with both arms!!

I've been working hard so long
seems like pain has been my only friend
my fragile heart's been done so wrong
I wondered if I'd ever heal again

Ohh just like all the seasons never stay the same
All around me I can feel a change (Ohh)

I will break these chains that bind me, happiness will find me
leave the past behind me, today my life begins,
a whole new world is waiting It's mine for the taking,
I know I can make it, today my life begins

Yesterday has come and gone
and I've learned how to leave it where it is
and I see that I was wrong
for ever doubting I could win

Ohh just like all the seasons never stay the same
All around me I can feel a change (ohh)

I will break these chains that bind me, happiness will find me,
leave the past behind me, today my life begins
a whole new world is waiting it's mine for the taking
I know I can make it, today my life begins

life's too short to have regrets
so I'm learning now to leave it in the past and try to forget
only have one life to live
so you better make the best of it

I will break these chains that bind me, happiness will find me
leave the past behind me, today my life begins,
a whole new world is waiting it's mine for the taking
I know I can make it, today my life begins

I will break these chains that bind me, happiness will find me,
leave the past behind me, today my life begins,
a whole new world is waiting it's mine for the taking
I know I can make it, today my life begins,
today my life begins...

Music Therapy with Miss Moon

Every new beginning comes from some other beginning's end.
~ Seneca

Happy New Year, Everybody!!! The last week of 2011 was not the best and brightest for yours truly. To give you an example, check out my Twittascope from last Wednesday:

You're not overly thrilled with your plans for the future, but you're capable of balancing your fantasies with the reality of your current situation. Even if you're tempted to escape into your own illusions, you don't have to lose track of where you're standing now and where you want to go. Ironically, staying connected with the bigger picture will ultimately make navigation in the present moment easier to handle.

Little did I know I'd be losing my job that day, and facing the new year unemployed. Suffice to say, not being overly thrilled with my plans for the future was an understatement to how I felt that day. I felt like the biggest loser on the planet, and was very scared that this new setback would seriously hinder the plans I had begun to set in motion for my life.

I went home, cried a little (okay a lot!), had a good talk with my best friend Natasha, filed for unemployment, and submitted my resume to six companies looking for a new hiree. And it dawned on me... I was already on the road to starting over. And what better time to start over than the beginning of a whole new year?!? I have 365 to make use of the space the Universe has cleared out of my life... starting at that moment!

I went from feeling sad and defeated, to optimistic and very excited about the adventure I'm about to face. The start of a new year marks a new adventure for us all, ripe with opportunities, and I knew immediately what Music Therapy song choice I would pick as commencement on our journey that is the year 2012.... So I hope you all will enjoy Tracy Chapman's "New Beginning".

The whole world's broke and it ain't worth fixing
It's time to start all over, make a new beginning
There's too much pain, too much suffering
Let's resolve to start all over make a new beginning

Now don't get me wrong - I love life and living
But when you wake up and look around at everything that's going down -
All wrong
You see we need to change it now, this world with too few happy endings
We can resolve to start all over make a new beginning

Start all over
Start all over
Start all over
Start all over

The world is broken into fragments and pieces
That once were joined together in a unified whole
But now too many stand alone - There's too much separation
We can resolve to come together in the new beginning

Start all over
Start all over
Start all over
Start all over

We can break the cycle - We can break the chain
We can start all over - In the new beginning
We can learn, we can teach
We can share the myths the dream the prayer
The notion that we can do better
Change our lives and paths
Create a new world and

Start all over
Start all over
Start all over
Start all over

The whole world's broke and it ain't worth fixing
It's time to start all over, make a new beginning
There's too much fighting, too little understanding
It's time to stop and start all over
Make a new beginning

Start all over
Start all over
Start all over
Start all over

We need to make new symbols
Make new signs
Make a new language
With these we'll define the world

And start all over
Start all over
Start all over
Start all over ...
