Miss Moon Gets Healthy... 13 Minutes at a Time!

The above photo shows four days worth of workouts in the span of two weeks. But what it signifies is much, much more! It's a photo of baby steps. It's a photo of my progress, thus far. It's a photo of the beginning of what is to come!

It's been a month, and I've been doing a really great job with going to the gym. I'm starting at going twice a week, on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and on the other days I walk from my job to the West 4th Street train station to get home (which is about a mile). And so far, I feel a great deal of relief to be back on track!!

Music Therapy with Miss Moon

With love and patience, nothing is impossible.
~ Dr. Daisaku Ikeda

With time and patience the mulberry leaf becomes a silk gown.
~ Chinese Proverb

"Have patience. All things are difficult before they become easy."
~ Saadi

I saw a pin on Pinterest that said something to the effect of this. "Don't give up on your dreams because of the amount of time it will take to achieve them... the time will pass anyway.". And for such a simple statement, it really struck a chord for me.

Patience is not my strongest virtue I admit. I can be quite tenacious, but when I feel like I'm not budging after a certain period of time has elapsed, then I wonder if my energies should be better put to use on some other pursuit. I would tell myself that I'm not that young anymore, that I don't have the time to reap a long-term harvest. But in all honesty... that's fear talking.

For the very first time in my life, I have made the decision to stay put. I am going to work towards my goals for this year, despite the amount of time it takes to get it. And although the goal seems very very far away, I can see it on the horizon.

This week's song choice for Music Therapy with Miss Moon is a song I've featured before, but I honestly feel that its the best song that captures the spirit of where I am at this moment. I hope that "Closer" by Goapele will remind you that no matter how far away your goals may seem, it's very worth the wait, and worth the effort it takes to pursue them. Keep going!

Closer to my dreams
It's coming over me

I'm gettin' higher
Closer to my dreams
I'm getting higher and higher
Feel it in my sleep

Some times it feels like I'll never go pass here
Some times it feels like I'm stuck forever and ever

But, I'm going higher
Closer to my dreams
I'm goin' higher and higher
I can almost reach

Some times you just have to let it go (Let it go, let it go)
Leaving all my fears to burn down
Push them all away so I can move on
Closer to my dreams
Feel it all over my being
Close your eyes and see what you believe

I'm happy as long as we're apart
Then I'm moving on to my dreams

I'll be moving higher (Moving higher)
Closer to my dreams
And higher and higher, higher
Feel it in my being (I can feel it flow around me)
I know that I could not go alone (No, no)

I'm moving higher (Higher), oh...
I'm going higher and higher and higher (Higher and
Higher)
Closer to my dreams (Higher and higher, oh...oh...)
I'm moving upward and onward and beyond all I can see
(Stretching out my arms so I can reach)

Feels so close it's like i can just reach
I can feel my dreams (Closer to my dreams)
I'm moving closer to my dreams
I'm moving (Higher and higher) higher and higher
(Higher and higher)
Moving higher, oh...

Some times it feels like you never gon' change (Never gon' change)
But you never choose to walk away

DOPE: "Dil Khol Ke Let's Rock" from "We Are Family" (2010)

This week's post comes from the recent Hindi movie "We Are Family", which is inspired by the Julia Roberts, Susan Sarandon film "Step Mom".... And if you cried for that movie, you will be DEVASTATED by the Hindi film version! LOL

Fortunately, the song I'm sharing is from a more upbeat time in the film. So I hope you will enjoy a pregnant Kajol, Kareena Kapoor and Arjun Rampal in "Dil Khol Ke Let's Rock". The lyrics with English translations are courtesy of BollyMeaning.com.

Mujhe nahi pata main kya gaaungi
I don't know what will I sing
Ulte seedhe lafzon se banaungi
Will create it with random words
Mann mein jo aaye keh jaaungi
Whatever comes to my mind I'll say
Chalo hato pare naacho dil khol ke let's rock, helloji let's rock
Move-move away-dance whole heartedly let's rock, hello sir let's rock
O main toh bhool gayi phir kya wordings the
O I forgot what were the words,
something something jailhouse rock
something something Jailhouse Rock..

Darr kis baat ka, raat jo hui
What to fear from if it's night
Roshan zindagi, taaron se hui
Life is lighted with the stars now
Zindagi ke pyaare lamhon aane waale saare palon se main toh khul ke yoon mil jaungi
With the lovely moments of life, with all the moments to come, I'll mix up openly
Teri baat mein dum toh hai bada
There is a good point in what you said
Khushiyon ka samaa, gham se hai bada
Time of happiness is more important than sadness
Jo bhi karo aaj karo, khwaab poore aaj karo, yahan kal kisne dekha hai ji
Whatever you do, do it today, fulfill your dreams today, who has seen tomorrow here..

Mujhe nahi pata main kya gaaunga
I don't know what I'll sing,
Teri baaton ko hi dohraunga
Will only repeat what you said
Iss se achcha ab kya gaunga
What better will I sing
Tune bhi kya baatein kahi hass bol ke let's rock, yo mamma let's rock
What a (beautiful/true) thing you said, talk, laugh, and let's rock..
O main toh bhool gaya phir kya wordings the
O I forgot what were the words
something something jailhouse rock
something something Jailhouse rock..

O jaan ruko, zara, Suno, zara,
O love stop for a while, listen for a while
O meri jaan-e, jaana, Maine, maana,
O my dear love, I agree
Mera aana, bhi suhana
My coming is also good,
Sama sama hai deewana
Time is mad (in a good sense)

O pehlu yeh naya, bilkul bhi nahi
This is not a new aspect at all
Tumne gaur se dekha hi nahi
You didn't see carefully
Gungunana aata nahi, taal se bhi naata nahi
You don't know how to hum, (you have) no relation with rhythm
Phir bhi dil se main to jhoomungi
Still I'll dance with my heart
Wah kya shaam hai, khushiyon se saji
Wow what an evening it is, decorated with happiness
Dono haath se, taali jo baji
Like a clap with both the hands
Haan tere sang naachungi main
yeah I'll dance with you
Tere sang gaaungi main
I'll sing with you
Tere kadmon pe main chalungi
I'll walk in your footsteps..

Mujhe nahi pata main kya gaaungi
I don't know what will I sing
Ulte seedhe lafzon se banaungi
Will create it with random words
Mann mein jo aaye keh jaaungi
Whatever comes to my mind I'll say
Chalo hato pare naacho dil khol ke let's rock, boloji let's rock
Move-move away-dance whole heartedly let's rock, say let's rock
O main toh bhool gayi phir kya wordings the
O I forgot what were the words,
something something jailhouse rock..
something something Jailhouse Rock..

Wanna Wanna Wednesdays... ASOS CURVE T-Shirt With Vertical Stripe

I managed to wear last week's Wanna Wanna Wednesday item without major catastrophe. Hooray!!! Inspired by this amazing feat, I am dedicating myself to incorporating more white into my wardrobe... and I do believe that this week's item will be the next top I'm starting with.

This gorgeous tee ($41.46, ASOS) would look fabulous with a pair of cobalt blue skinny jeans, or how about a pair of red pants? The options for a fabulous look are endless!!

Music Therapy with Miss Moon

" You can cut all the flowers but you cannot keep spring from coming."
~ Pablo Neruda

" Spring has returned. The Earth is like a child that knows poems."
~ Rainer Maria Rilke

" If we had no winter, the spring would not be so pleasant; if we did not sometimes taste of adversity, prosperity would not be so welcome."
~ Anne Bradstreet

There are times, where I wish I lived in a part of the world that had constant sunshine, year-round warmth. I can imagine living someplace where I can go lie on the beach in February, never have to trek to the subway in the snow, and never ever have to feel that awful chill to the bones one feels when its frigid out.

But the truth of the matter is, how else would we enjoy and appreciate the spring without the winter? And it's just like appreciating moments of peace without struggle.

So for this week's Music Therapy with Miss Moon, I have chosen a classic tune from the great Bob Marley to celebrate the arrival of Spring. I hope you all will enjoy "Sun Is Shining".

Sun is shining, the weather is sweet
Make you want to move your dancing feet
To the rescue, here i am
Want you to know, y'all, where i stand

(monday morning) here i am
Want you to know just if you can
(tuesday evening) where i stand
(wenesday morning)
Tell myself a new day is rising
(thursday evening) get on the rise
A new day is dawning
(friday morning) here i am
(saturday evening) want you to know just
Want you to know just where i stand

When the morning gathers the rainbow
Want you to know i'm a rainbow too
So, to the rescue here i am
Want you to know just if you can
Where i stand, know, know, know, know, know

We'll lift our heads and give jah praises
We'll lift our heads and give jah praises, yeah

Sun is shining, the weather is sweet
Make you want to move your dancing feet
To the rescue, here i am
Want you to know just if you can
Where i stand

(wenesday morning)
Tell myself a new day is rising
(thursday evening) get on the rise
A new day is dawning
(friday morning) here i am
(saturday evening) want you to know just
Want you to know just where i stand

When the morning gathers the rainbow
Want you to know i'm a rainbow too
So to the rescue, here i am
Want you to know just if you can
Where i stand, know, know, know, know, know

We'll lift our heads and give jah praises (repeat)
Sun is shining, the weather is sweet
Make you want to move your dancing feet
To the rescue, here i am
Want you to know just if you can
Where i stand, no, no, no, no, where i stand
Sun is shining, sun is shining

DOPE: "Ooh La La" from "The Dirty Picture" (2011)

Today's DOPE post is a very fun, lighthearted song from an otherwise sad movie. Based on the true story of South Indian actress Silk Smitha, who rose to fame by selecting controversial sexually charged roles, "The Dirty Picture" is a terrific story, and Vidya Balan (who actually gained almost 30 pounds to play the role of this sex symbol. GAINED!) does a terrific job in portraying Silk.

With the lyrics courtesy of BollyMeaning, I hope you all will enjoy "Ooh La La" and be sure to check out "The Dirty Picture" (Presently streaming on Netflix).

Chutki jo tune kaati hai
Now that you have pinched me,
Jori se kaati hai, yahan wahan
Pinched me here n there,
Roothi hoon, main tujhse roothi hoon
I am angry with you,
Mujhe mana le na o jaan-e-jaan
Cajole me, o my sweetheart..

Chhedenge hum tujhko
I'll tease you,
Ladki tu hai badi bumbaat
you're such an item girl..

Ooh la la, ooh la la, ooh la la, ooh la la
Tu hai meri fantasy
You are my fantasy..

chhoona na, chhoona na, chhoona na, chhoona na
Don't touch, don't touch, don't touch me,
Ab main jawan ho gayi
Now my youth has ripened..

Haan chhua jo tune toh dil ne maari seeti
When you touched me, my heart whistled,
De de inn gaalon pe ek pappi meethi meethi
Put a sweet kiss on my cheeks..
Yauvan tera, saavan bhara
Your youth is full of rainy season,
Bheeg gaya dil yeh mera
This heart of mine got drenched..

Aaha tune hi barsaat karaayi
You only have made it rain,
Kya kare yeh yauwan bechara bechara bechara
what shall my poor youth do..

Ooh la la, ooh la la, ooh la la, ooh la la
Tu hai meri fantasy
You are my fantasy..

chhoona na, chhoona na, chhoona na, chhoona na
Don't touch, don't touch, don't touch me,
Ab main jawan ho gayi
Now my youth has ripened..

Gira ke apna pallu, baarbaa
Making her pallu* fall repeatedly,
Kar deti woh humko bekaraar
she makes me restless..

Aag lagayi tune tann mein kya kare yeh pallu bechara
You only put my body on fire, what can the poor pallu* do..
Bechara, bechara

Chhedenge hum tujhko
I'll tease you,
Ladki tu hai badi bumbaat
you're such an item girl..

* Pallu is a loose end of a saaree or a similar kind of dress material, which is generally worn over shoulders.

Wanna Wanna Wednesdays: Calvin Klein Three-Quarter-Sleeve Utility Tunic

I guess the true sign of my maturity is that like my Mama and her Mama before her... I've recently been shopping at Macy's. Not the physical store... that place gives me hives! But online. Online where it's save from the inevitable fight that always breaks out when I'm at the store. What's up with that, Macy's.

When I recently purchased a gorgeous pair of natural colored flats (also from Macy's), I imagined myself rocking them with some white, beige or natural top and skinny jeans. Skinny jeans, I have in spades. White tops? Not so much...

Primarily because I'm a world-class, grade "A" klutz. But recently I discovered a wonderful invention called the Tide to Go Pen, so I'm ready to invest in some light colored shirt. Enter this gorgeous utility tunic from Calvin Klein ($54.99, Macy's), which is basically begging to join my closet.

Aside from with my new flats and skinny jeans, I don't know what else to wear with this top. Any suggestions? Leave a comment with your idea!

Music Therapy with Miss Moon

" Whenever anyone has offended me, I try to raise my soul so high that the offense cannot reach it."
~ René Descartes

" I will not let anyone walk through my mind with their dirty feet."
~ Mahatma Gandhi

" If the world's a veil of tears, Smile till rainbows span it."
~ Lucy Larcom

" Because of your smile, you make life more beautiful."
~ Thich Nhat Hanh

I've been given the challenge to be more positive at work. This can be hard, because I am in a profession where 75% of the energy that I deal with is negative. But I do love a good challenge, and I am planning on meeting it with gusto!

I am a generally positive person, I practice expressing gratitude as a daily ritual, and I like to consider the bright side most of the time. But I concede that I've been a Negative Nancy and I recognize the need to change that. Not only for the sake of my job... but for the sake of my spirit.

So I have promised not to succumb to the anger and negativity of others. I will recite Om Vajra Sattwa Hung (Om vahj-rah saht-wah hoong), which is a mantra I recently learned for clearing out negative energies from within your body after interacting with people with a lot of negative energy. I will remember who I am, and never let anyone change that. And I will remember to smile.

Smile, though your heart is aching, smile,
Even though it's breaking
When there are clouds, in the sky you'll get by
If you smile, through all fear and sorrow
Smile and maybe tomorrow
You'll find the sun come shining through for you

Light up your face, with gladness
Hide every trace of sadness

Although a tear maybe ever so near
Cause that's the time you must keep on trying
Smile, what's the use of crying
You'll find that life is still worth while
If you, you just smile

Although a tear is ever so near
Cause that's the time you must keep on trying
Smile, what's the use of you crying
You'll find that life is still worth while
If you, my darling just smile

Smile, darling baby, smile
Thank you, thank you very much

DOPE: "Wafa Jo Na Ki To" from "Muqaddar Ka Sikandar" (1978)

I'm back with another DOPE Hindi film clip. This week I took it old school, because really old can certainly be gold. I found the lyrics online (I sadly don't remember where... boo!), but the English translations are courtesy of me pausing the DVD (I'm still fancy!). I hope you enjoy Rehka being as beautiful as ever in "Wafa Jo Na Ki To".

Wafa Jo Na Ki Tau Jaffa Bhi Na Ki Jiye
If you can't be loyal, then don't be unjust
Wafa Jo Na Ki Tau Jaffa Bhi Na Ki Jiye
If you can't be loyal, then don't be unjust
Sitam, Jaan-e-Man, Is Tarah Bhi Na Ki Jiye
Don't be so cruel to me
Ke Marne Ki Tamanna Mein, Kahin Ji Na Jaye
I wish to die in your arms
Ke Marne Ki Tamanna Mein, Kahin Ji Na Jaye
I wish to die in your arms
Wafaa aaa aaa
Loyalty

Tumhein Jab Se Dekha Mujhe Yun Laga
When I saw you
Ke Kashti Ko Ab Nakhudah Mil Gaya
I felt that as if I've seen God
Ibadat Mere Dil Ne Ki Eis Tarah,
I worshiped you in a way that
Mere Dil Ko Jaise Khudah Mil Gaya
I felt that I have seen God
Dua
Blessings
Dua Jo Na Di Bad-Dua Bhi Na Di Jiye
If you can't bless me, then don't even curse me
Sitam, Jaan-e-Man, Is Tarah Bhi Na Ki Jiye
Don't be so cruel to me
Ke Marne Ki Tamanna Mein, Kahin Ji Na Jaye
I wish to die in your arms
Ke Marne Ki Tamanna Mein, Kahin Ji Na Jaye
I wish to die in your arms
Wafaa aaa aaa
Loyalty

Nahin Ishq Humse Nahin Na Sahi
So what if you don't love me?
Humein Ishq Tumse Hai Hum Kya Kare
If I love you, what is my mistake?
Hai Mur Mur Ke Jeene Ki Adat Humein
I have got used to living a painful life
Tumhari Bhala Se Jiye Ya Murre
What do you care if I live or die?
Bhala
Remember me
Bhala Na Kia Tau, Burra Bhi Na Ki Jiye
If you didn't remember me, then don't forget me.
Sitam, Jaan-e-Man, Is Tarah Bhi Na Ki Jiye
Don't be so cruel to me
Ke Marne Ki Tamanna Mein, Kahin Ji Na Jaye
I wish to die in your arms
Ke Marne Ki Tamanna Mein, Kahin Ji Na Jaye
I wish to die in your arms
Wafaa aaa aaa
Loyalty

Wanna Wanna Wednesdays: Simply Be's Beach Caftan

Last week, we had a day so beautiful here in NYC that my co-workers and I all expressed a very strong desire to be at the beach instead of our office. Thinking of the warmer weather to come, and the approach of  beach season, I realized something very important. I need to get a new bathing suit!!! Now that I've gone down in size my four year old swim suit will not be cutting it. And I plan on going to the beach this summer, as many times as I can!!!

I haven't found the swimsuit yet, but at least I know what I'll be rocking over it!!! This gorgeous kaftan ($41.50, Simply Be) is cute enough to wear to the beach, and every day!!!

Music Therapy with Miss Moon

Dreams are necessary to life."
~ Anais Nin

“ There is only one thing that makes a dream impossible to achieve: the fear of failure.
~ Paulo Coelho

“ Hold fast to dreams,
For if dreams die
Life is a broken-winged bird,
That cannot fly.
~ Langston Hughes

One thing that will most likely never change about me is my propensity to daydream. Since childhood, I would spend hours deep in my mind, imagining my life - How it is, how it isn't, how I'd like it to be.

Fast forward to me today at 35, and not much has changed. I find myself on the train, listening to my iPod and daydreaming the same flights of fancy as in my childhood. I've been blessed to make many of my dreams come true, so I know that as the years progress I will continue to bring more from the world of my dreams to the world outside we all live in.

This week's song choice for Music Therapy with Miss Moon is a song I've featured in a post last year, but I felt compelled to bring it back. I dedicate it to the dreamers out there: to you, to me, to all of us.

Have you ever heard
Of a dreamer girl
Living in a world
So far away
You might think that she
Is a bit naive
When she says that someday
She'll be your queen

Isn't it possible?
Is it a crime?
Or is it just a silver state of mind?
Baby baby
Close your eyes
Life's a dream
Maybe someday one day...

I dream of simple things every day
I dream that love will come my way
I dream of many lives
I cross the stage
I dream that in this world I can make a change

Is it possible?
Is it a crime?
Or is it just a silver state of mind?
Baby baby
Close your eyes
Life's a dream
Maybe someday one day...

Tell me that I could have it all
Tell me that I wouldn't change at all
Tell me this road is not too long
Will I give up a few years from now
Will I be strong someway somehow
Tell me that I should keep holding on

Baby baby
Close your eyes
Life's a dream
Maybe someday one day...

Baby baby
Close your eyes
Life's a dream
Maybe someday one day...

A Little [MOBY] for a Saturday Night

I am back with my song pick for N in my "ABCs of Good Music". This song is a personal favorite of mine, though if you hear me singing it to myself or humming it, look out! It means I am super vexed about something!!

I hope you all won't be vexed and that you will join me in vibing out to Moby's "Natural Blues"...

DOPE: "Yeh Ladka Hai Allah" from "Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham" (2001)

This week's DOPE post is the highlight of a feel-inducing Hindi movie. And some of you who are familiar with Hindi Movies, you may be wondering if this is obvious. It's not. Really. LOL

I was lucky today, because I managed to find a clip with the English subtitles included. So I hope you all will enjoy two of my faves, Kajol and Shah Rukh Khan in "Yeh Ladka Hai Allah".

Wanna Wanna Wednesdays... Aldo Shoes' Lucyna Flats

I know, I know... Another shoe post! But it's spring, and after wearing black books and my Chucks all winter, I am very excited to wear something pretty and colorful on my feet! And how gorgeous are these ballet flats turned sandals ($60.00, Aldo Shoes)? I love the vibrant, Aztec-inspired print, and the color combination is straight out of Casa Azul, which just makes me super happy!!

I would rock these sandals with jeans or pants for day to day, and with a cute white dress and an arm full of bracelets if I was feeling especially Frida Kahlo!!! What do you think of Aldo shoes' Lucyna? Would you rock them or knock them?

Music Therapy with Miss Moon

" I prefer to be a dreamer among the humblest, with visions to be realized, than lord among those without dreams and desires."
~ Khalil Gibran

" Every great dream begins with a dreamer. Always remember, you have within you the strength, the patience, and the passion to reach for the stars to change the world."
~ Harriet Tubman

Your vision becomes clear when you look inside your heart. Who looks outside, dreams. Who looks inside, awakens.
~ Carl Jung

One personality trait of mine that has persisted since childhood is my ability to daydream. I'm still a woman who can be "in her own head" daily. While my daydreams are harmless and they don't prevent me from living my life, I sometimes fear that my dreams make me a bit too picky and adamant about what I want in my life. I wonder if I'm wasting time waiting for a dream to come true, because I'm not getting any younger, now is the time, blah blah blah...

Such were the thoughts in my head when my co-worker John handed me a fortune cookie from his lunch. I opened it and the fortune really knocked me off my feet:

"Hungry is the man that finds salvation in a cookie"

I took it as a sign that regardless of the time spent waiting (though patience is not my best virtue), it is better to actively seek out and wait for what you want in life to appear.

So I won't let fear of disappointment make me settle... not at all. I will expect the rest of my life to be the best of my life. Starting today! And to celebrate the first day of my fabulous future, here's this week's song choice for Music Therapy with Miss Moon, "Vision" by Alana Davis.

I don’t know what I really want in life
Well, of course, I want some love
And I may need something to keep me inspired,
So I don’t drive myself crazy

On the way, I tried to stay on my path
Glad for the things that I’ve learned in my past
And I try not to choose based on old decisions
And soon I’ll get stronger,
Without such divisions

And I want to know the future, yeah
But I can’t look over this day, no
I could work until I’m blue, from the mission
‘Til it’s more than just a vision in my head

More than just a vision in my head
More than just some ‘thing’ somebody said
More than just a lesson to be read
More like part of you and me, instead

I don’t know where to look for guarantees
Well of course, I want the truth
There are so many ways I could go, I think I..
Might just stay in the moment
All I know is I’ve got to make my way
‘Cause I don’t have time that I want to waste
And if I honestly look, I might find:
That I’m dumb in the heart
And out of my mind

And I want to know the future, yeah
But I can’t look over this day, no
I could work until I’m blue, from the mission
‘Til it’s more than just a vision in my head

More than just a vision in my head
More than just some ‘thing’ somebody said
More than just a lesson to be read
More like part of you and me, instead

Oh yeah
Is this a bridge, yeah?
It’s just a bridge, yeah…
It’s just a bridge, yeah…

And I want to know the future, yeah
But I can’t look over this day, no
I could work until I’m blue, from the mission
‘Til it’s more than just a vision in my head

More than just a vision in my head
More than just some ‘thing’ somebody said
More than just a lesson to be read
More like part of you and me, instead
More than just some Thing hanging over my bed!
Oh yeah
More like part of you and ME
