DOPE: "Aal Izz Well" from "3 Idiots" (2009)

Last week, I had the exciting opportunity to take part in the joyful fun-o-rama that is jury duty... that's totally sarcasm, by the way! I had to get up two hours earlier than I normally do and sit in a room for six hours. The only saving grace for the experience was the free Wi-Fi, which allowed me to watch "3 Idiots"... What a terrific movie!! To be honest, I was all set to watch "Don 2" which is streaming on Netflix, but it wasn't working on my phone, so I found this movie on YouTube, and I'm so happy that I gave it a chance!

Today's DOPE song choice is one that's really fun and inspirational... and I must admit that since watching the film I've said "Aal Izz Well" to myself from time to time. It really works!! Lyrics with English translation courtesy of Krazy Lyrics.

Jab life ho out of control
When your life get's out of control
Honthon ko kar ke gol
Round your lips
Honthon ko kar ke gol
Round your lips
Seeti bajaa ke bol
Whistle and say

Jab life ho out of control
When your life get's out of control
Honthon ko kar ke gol
Round your lips
Honthon ko kar ke gol
Round your lips
Seeti bajaa ke bol
Whistle and say

Aal Izz Well
All is well

Murgi kya jaane aande ka kya hoga
A hen does not know the future of it's egg
Are life milegi ya tawe pe fry hoga
Will it hatch or will it be turned into a omelet
Koi na jaane apna future kya hoga
Nobody knows our future

Honth ghuma
Round your lips,
Seeti bajaa
Whistle
Seeti bajaa ke bol
Whistle and say
Bhaiyaa All izz well
Bro, All is well

Arre bhaiyaa all izz well
Hey Bro, All is well
Arre chachu All izz well
Hey friend, all is well
Arre bhaiyaa all izz well
Hey Bro, All is well

Confusion hi confusion hai
There is confusion everywhere
Solution kuchh pata nahin
We don't know the solution
Solution jo mila to saala
If we get the solution,
Question kya tha pata nahin
We don't know the question

Dil jo tera baat baat pe ghabraaye
If your heart get's tense on every matter
Dil pe rakh ke haath use tu fuslaa le
Keep a hand on your heart and persuade it
Dil idiot hai pyaar se usko samjha le
Heart is an idiot, persuade it with love

Honth ghuma
Round your lips,
Seeti bajaa
Whistle
Seeti bajaa ke bol
Whistle and say
Bhaiyaa All izz well
Bro, All is well

Arre bhaiyaa all izz well
Hey Bro, All is well
Arre chachu All izz well
Hey friend, all is well
Arre bhaiyaa all izz well
Hey Bro, All is well

Scholarship ki pi gaya daaru
You have drunk alchohol from the money of scholarship,
Gham to phir bhi mitaa nahin
But still grief did not vanish
Agarbattiyan raakh ho gayi
You have light many candles
God to phir bhi dikha nahi
But still you haven't seen God

Bakra kya jaane uski jaan ka kya hoga
A goat does not know what will happen to it
Seekh ghusegi ya saala keema hoga
In which dish it might be turned
Koi na jaane apna future kya hoga
Nobody knows our future

Honth ghuma
Round your lips,
Seeti bajaa
Whistle
Seeti bajaa ke bol
Whistle and say
Bhaiyaa All izz well
Bro, All is well

Arre bhaiyaa all izz well
Hey Bro, All is well
Arre chachu All izz well
Hey friend, all is well
Arre bhaiyaa all izz well
Hey Bro, All is well

Jab life ho out of control
When your life get's out of control
Honthon ko kar ke gol
Round your lips
Honthon ko kar ke gol
Round your lips
Seeti bajaa ke bol
Whistle and say

Aal Izz Well
All is well

Murgi kya jaane aande ka kya hoga
A hen does not know the future of it's egg
Are life milegi ya tawe pe fry hoga
Will it get life or will it be turned into a omelet
Koi na jaane apna future kya hoga
Nobody knows our future

Honth ghuma
Round your lips,
Seeti bajaa

Music Therapy with Miss Moon

" I have accepted fear as a part of life – specifically the fear of change. I have gone ahead despite the pounding in the heart that says: turn back."
~ Erica Jong

" Decide that you want it more than you are afraid of it."
~ Bill Cosby

" Where fear is, happiness is not."
~ Seneca

One of the most frustrating feelings in life is knowing what needs to be done, knowing that fear is holding you back, and not knowing how to get over it. Do you just leap and hope that the net will appear? Do you take a baby step in the right direction? What to do?

I'm 35, and I'm rapidly passing the "there's still time..." phase of my life. So I'm going to leap and instead of hoping the net will appear I will know it. I'm tired of ambling down this path we call life, kept stagnant by fear and unhappy.

I'm going for what I want in life. I'm going to make moves, rock the boat a bit, and my heart will quake with fear, but I will know I'm alive. So for today's song choice, I am sharing one of my favorite tunes by Erykah Badu, "Didn't Cha Know" May it serve was a reminder that life is to be lived, not feared.

Oh hey...

Ooh hey
I'm trying to decide
Which way to go
I think I made a wrong turn back there somewhere

Ooh hey
I'm trying to decide
Which way to go
I think I made a wrong turn back there somewhere

Didn't cha know, didn't cha know
Tried to move but I lost my way
Didn't cha know, didn't cha know
Stopped to watch my emotions sway
Didn't cha know, didn't cha know
Knew the toll, but I would not pay
Didn't cha know, didn't cha know
Cause you never know where the cards may lay

Time to save the world
Where in the world is all the time
So many things I still don't know
So many times I've changed my mind
Guess I was born to make mistakes
But I ain't scared to take the weight
So when I stumble off the path
I know my heart will guide me back

Ooh hey
I'm trying to decide
Which way to go
I think I made a wrong turn back there somewhere

Ooh hey
I'm trying to decide
Which way to go
I think I made a wrong turn back there somewhere

Didn't cha know, didn't cha know
Tried to run but I lost my way
Didn't cha know, didn't cha know
Stopped to watch my emotions sway
Didn't cha know, didn't cha know
Knew the toll but I would not pay
Didn't cha know, didn't cha know
I said ya never know how the cards may lay

Love is life, and life is free
Take a ride on life with me
Free your mind and find your way
There will be a brighter day

Love is life, and life is free
Take a ride on life with me
Free your mind and find your way
There will be a brighter day

DOPE: "Second Hand Jawaani" from "Cocktail" (2012)

Remember that MC Lyte/Positive K song, "I'm Not Havin' It"? Today's DOPE post is the Hindi Film version of the song!!! I haven't seen "Cocktail" yet (It's presently en route to me), but I have to admit that it was thing song that made me fork over the bucks for it!!

The Hindi lyrics with English subtitles are courtesy of YouTube channel Rimnaz1614, with a bit of fancy typing from yours truly!! I hope you all enjoy "Second Hand Jawaani". "Jawaani" means youth, but in the case of this song, it refers to the hormonal and vigorous... romantic stamina that comes with it!! LOL

Daayein lage kabhi baayein lage
Sometimes to the left, sometimes to the right
Naino ki bullet dil pe dhaayein lage
the bullet of eyes hits the heart straight
Raja
O my king
Daayein lage kabhi baayein lage
Sometimes to the left, sometimes to the right
Naino ki bullet dil pe dhaayein lage
the bullet of eyes hits the heart straight
Raja aayi helicopter pe chadhke jawaani
O my king, my youth has climbed on to a helicopter and has arrived
Kudi parachute bina karke manmaani
Without a parachute it has jumped on its own whim

Teri banned jawaani
Your youth is banned
Teri banned jawaani
Your youth is banned
Nahi chahiye mujhko teri second hand jawaani
I don't want your second hand youth
Teri banned jawaani
Your youth is banned
Oh teri banned jawaani
Your youth is banned
Nahi chahiye mujhko teri second hand jawaani
I don't want your second hand youth

Oh meri banned jawaani, meri banned jawaani
Oh my banned youth, my banned youth

Khabron ke college ka, main professor hoon baby
Baby, I am the professor of the "gossip" college
Ayyashi ke computer ka, processor hoon baby
Baby, I am the processor of a flashy computer
Khabron ke college ka, main professor hoon baby
Baby, I am the professor of the "gossip" college
Ayyashi ke computer ka, processor hoon baby
Baby I am the processor of a flashy computer
Oh raja hogi gadhi jo bhi hogi teri deewani
Oh my king, the one who is your lover must be an idiot
Jitna kameena tu, main utni sayaani
Just as you are crooked, I am intelligent

Oh meri banned jawaani, meri behan jawaani
Oh my banned youth, my banned youth
Oh lambi race ki hai ghodi second hand jawaani
This second-hand youth is a long race
Oh teri banned jawaani
Your youth is banned
Nahi chahiye mujhko teri second hand jawaani
I don't want your second hand youth

Yun meri jawaani pe, jo ungali uthaaye
You raise a finger on my youth?

Khudki khaali taxi mein kitne bithaaye
How many sit in your empty taxi?
Yun meri jawaani pe, jo ungali uthaaye
You raise a finger on my youth?
Khudki khaali taxi mein kitne bithaaye
How many sit in your empty taxi?
Oh ja ja radio pe teri mashhoor kahaani
Oh yeah, yeah your story is famous on the radio
Duniya sunegi ab yeh aakashwani
The whole world will hear of your divine announcement

Teri banned jawaani
Your youth is banned
Oh teri banned jawaani
Your youth is banned
Nahi chahiye mujhko teri second hand jawaani
I don't want your second hand youth

Miss Moon Gets Healthy: December Stats

I did pretty well for December, I think. It's super cold now and I admit that since the start of 2013, I haven't been walking the 4 days a week I had planned to after work. But on the plus side, I have been eating super better, and I believe I've finally found the balance between eating good food and eating junk on occasion (A girl needs a little BBQs from time to time! LOL)

Me with my Lovely Aunt at Christmas. Please note I'm wearing my eating pants and NO shaper! LOL
I'm feeling really great about the progress I made in 2012, and I'm super excited to learn what the new year will bring for me. I have one big plan on the horizon, to make up for the fact that the cold is preventing me from wanting to take my walks. I'm calling it the best Valentine's Day present ever!!!

I'm planning on getting my very first Gym membership!!!! Right now I'm sort of torn between the Crunch Fitness Downtown Brooklyn  (Close to home) or the NYSFC in Soho (Close to the job), but I'm confident that by V-Day, I will be making my first visit to the gym that's right for me!! If you go to any of these locations, be sure to leave a comment letting me know the perks! :)

Music Therapy with Miss Moon

When one door closes, another opens; but we often look so long and so regretfully upon the closed door that we do not see the one which has opened for us.”
~ Alexander Graham Bell

" I'd rather regret the things I've done than regret the things I haven't done. "
~ Lucille Ball

" A man is not old until his regrets take the place of his dreams"
~ Yiddish Proverb

" I never regret anything. Because every little detail of your life is what made you into who you are in the end. "
~ Drew Barrymore

I admit it. I'm a girl that dwells on the "could-a... would-a... should-a's" in my life. I wonder what my life would be like today if I made different choices, listened to those red flags, said "NO!" when I really wanted to. And I guess it's something we all do from time to time... but I really do it a little too much. And I need to change it.

The first step in realizing that all of the choices I've made in my 35 years have lead me to where I am today. And more importantly, who I am today. And I'm... pretty kick ass, I think. I'm getting better with age, and that's due to my experiences. So instead of wringing my hands and shaking my head, I should express gratitude for where I have been, because I am now where I am, and that's someplace fabulous!

For today's Music Therapy with Miss Moon song choice, I share a great song by Darius "Not Hootie" Rucker. I hope you all will enjoy "This", and I hope it serves as a reminder to live your lives without regret, as you're wonderful and so is everything that is and everything's that to come!

Got a baby girl sleeping in my bedroom
And her mama laughing in my arms
There's the sound of rain on the rooftop
And the game's about to start

I don't really know how I got here
But I'm sure glad that I did
And it's crazy to think that one little thing
Could've changed all of it

Maybe it didn't turn out like I planned
Maybe that's why I'm such, such a lucky man

For every stoplight I didn't make
Every chance I did or I didn't take
All the nights I went too far
All the girls that broke my heart

All the doors that I had to close
All the things I knew but I didn't know
Thank God for all I missed
'Cause it led me here to this

Like the girl that I loved in high school
Who said she could do better
Or that college I wanted to go to
'Til I got that letter

All the fights and the tears and the heartache
I thought I'd never get through
And the moment I almost gave up
All lead me here to you

I didn't understand it way back when
But sitting here right now, it all makes perfect sense

For every stoplight I didn't make
Every chance I did or I didn't take
All the nights I went too far
All the girls that broke my heart

All the doors that I had to close
All the things I knew but I didn't know
Thank God for all I missed
'Cause it led me here to this

How I cried when my mama passed away
But now I've got an angel looking out for me today
So nothing's a mistake

For every stoplight I didn't make
Every chance I did or I didn't take
All the nights I went too far
All the girls that broke my heart

All the doors that I had to close
Everything I knew but I didn't know
Thank God for all I missed
'Cause it led me here to this
It led me here to this

DOPE: "Des Rangila" from "Fanaa" (2006)

This week I thought I would share another beautiful song from Fanaa, showcasing the insanely brilliant Kajol.  I hope you enjoy "Des Rangila" with the lyrics with English translation courtesy of BollyWhat?

yahaa.n har qadam qadam pe dhartii badalii ra.ng
With every step here, the earth changes color
yahaa.n kii bolii me.n ra.ngolii saat ra.ng
Every shade of the rainbow lives within our speech
yahaa.n har qadam qadam pe dhartii badalii ra.ng
With every step here, the earth changes color
yahaa.n kii bolii me.n ra.ngolii saat ra.ng
Every shade of the rainbow lives within our speech

dhaanii pagaRii pahane mausam hai
The weather wears a turban of pale green

The sky stretches overhead like a blue sheet

It's decorated with golden rivers and green oceans,
des ra.ngiila ra.ngiila des mera ra.ngiila...
this vivid country, my colorful country...

The crimson-cheeked sun casts wide
sharmiile kheto.n ko DHakne chunar piilii piilii
a yellow veil to cover the bashful fields

Music Therapy with Miss Moon

This is the highest wisdom that I own; freedom and life are earned by those alone who conquer them each day anew.
~ Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

" Today is a new day. Hiding from your history only shackles you to it. We can't undo a single thing we have ever done, but we can make decisions today that propel us to the life we want and towards the healing we need."
~ Steve Maraboli

" Don't let yesterday use up too much of today."
~ Will Rogers

Did you ever have a feeling that something huge is coming? It's a strange feeling, one full of anticipation, longing, excitedness and fear. I don't know why, but I feel like something is coming into my life, just past the horizon. I don't know what, but I have a feeling its going to be the first step of a new phase in my life.

It's a great feeling. Scary as hell, but still a great feeling. So today's Music Therapy with Miss Moon song choice is a soulful rendition of a classic from The Beatles by Dionne Farris. I hope that "Black Bird" will usher forth something new and fabulous for all of us.

Blackbird singing in the dead of night
Take these broken wings and learn to fly
All your life
You were only waiting for this moment to arise

Black bird singing in the dead of night
Take these sunken eyes and learn to see
all your life
you were only waiting for this moment to be free

Blackbird fly, Blackbird fly
Into the light of the dark black night.

Blackbird fly, Blackbird fly
Into the light of the dark black night.

Blackbird singing in the dead of night
Take these broken wings and learn to fly
All your life
You were only waiting for this moment to arise

Blackbird fly, Blackbird fly
Into the light of the dark black night.

Blackbird fly, Blackbird fly
Into the light of the dark black night.

Black bird singing in the dead of night
Take these sunken eyes and learn to see
all your life
you were only waiting for this moment to be free
you were only waiting for this moment to be free
you were only waiting for this moment to be free

It's another Saturday Night, and I'm back with another song choice for my ABCs of Good Music.

DOPE: "Aga Bai" from "Aiyyaa" (2012)

Fair Warning: I will most likely be sharing every song from "Aiyyaa"... The soundtrack is THAT dope! LOL

This week's pick is up first for the new year because of Rani Mukerji's fabulous dancing... showing the world that women can get their sexy on, even with a tummy!! And the other reason.....?

You're welcome! LOL
I hope you all will enjoy Aga Bai, lyrics courtesy of Lyric Mint and the English translation courtesy of my DVD and fancy typing skills!!

Biraha saudai (O ho)
Every word you say
Banke Shehnai (O ho)
Resonates
Kaano mein thumari chhed jaaye re
Like melody in my ears
Kaano mein thu meri chhed jaaye re
Like melody in my ears

Tan ki deewani (O ho)
My body's so helpless
Man ka naa maani (O ho)
I didn't listen to my heart
Man bola tan beiman haay re
The heart says the body's a deceiver
Man bola tan beiman haay re
The heart says the body's a deceiver
haay

Re Aga Bai halla machaye re
Oh God! It creates a stir
Re Aga Bai halla machaye re
Oh God! It creates a stir
Ki laagi laagi laagi kaisi agan man me
What's this passion in my heart?
Jaagi jaagi jaagi yovan me chubhan
There's an excitement in my heart
Aga Bai halla machaye re
Oh God! It creates a stir
Re Aga Bai halla machaye re
Oh God! It creates a stir
Aiyya aah..
Oh my!
Aiyyaa aah..
Oh my!
Ayyaaah..
Oh my!
Aiyyaa
Oh my!

Baali umar se laali thodi maang ke
I borrowed a few colors from the fervor of youth
Maine khwabon ki rangoli hai sajaai
And filled my dreams with colors
Aayi Laxman-rekha bhi mai laangh ke
I crossed every boundary
Haay kaisi talab kheench laayi?
What's this desire fueling me?

Aaye piya ki mehak jahaa sandhali
Whereever I get the sweet scent of my beloved
Mor man kaah bhare hai angdaai
My heart starts to sway
Chhod bagiya ko bhagi aisi main kali
I raced out of the gardens
Mujhko bhanwaro ki bhaaye parchhai
And ran after the bees

Pinjre ki maari (O ho)
Bound to captivity
Hirni bechari (O ho)
This poor prey
Sheron se jaake naina ladaaye
Locks eyes with her hunter
Sheron se jaake naina ladaaye
Locks eyes with her hunter

Tan ki deewani (O ho)
My body's so helpless
Man ka naa maani (O ho)
I didn't listen to my heart
Man bola tan beiman haay re
The heart says the body's a deceiver
Man bola tan beiman haay re
The heart says the body's a deceiver
haay

Re Aga Bai halla machaye re
Oh God! It creates a stir
Re Aga Bai halla machaye re
Oh God! It creates a stir
Ki laagi laagi laagi kaisi agan man me
What's this passion in my heart?
Jaagi jaagi jaagi yovan me chubhan
There's an excitement in my heart
Aga Bai halla machaye re
Oh God! It creates a stir
Re Aga Bai halla machaye re
Oh God! It creates a stir
Aiyya aah..
Oh my!
Aiyyaa aah..
Oh my!
Ayyaaah..
Oh my!
Aiyyaa
Oh my!

Wanna Wanna Wednesdays... Dolls of India's Dark Cyan Woolen Shawl with Embroidery and Sequin Work

Did all of you hear a gigantic squeal a few days ago? If so, it was most likely me when I stumbled across this blue-tastic , teal-rific shawl ($39.50, Dolls of India). I've been really getting into shawls instead of traditional scarfs this winter, and this little baby is definitely getting added to my collection!!!!!

Music Therapy with Miss Moon

" The way I see it, if you want the rainbow, you gotta put up with the rain."
~ Dolly Parton

"  Celebrate the wonderful and great days that you have and the occasional bad days will reduce."
~ Source Unknown

" Tough times never last, but tough people do."
~ Robert Shuller

I've learned that bad days aren't as bad as they seem. Surviving 3 bad days in a row without snapping can teach you that lesson. I've also learned that bad days aren't so bad when you are surrounded by good people, and that if you can find ten things to be grateful for, even on a bad day, then you are blessed.

Today's song choice for Music Therapy with Miss Moon is one that reminds us that we are built to survive bad days... even SEVERAL bad days. And if by any chance you are having a bad day today, I hope Nelly Furtado's "Spirit Indestructable" will lift your spirits!!

Through my one square foot window I see outside
I have chains on my feet, but not in my mind
I'll be dancing all day see the sun outside
Don't know how long it will be
Can't stop me

I have a spirit indestructible
A heart that loving was made for
A body that's a miracle

I have a spirit indestructible
A heart that was made pure
Unbreakable and that's for sure
Unshakeable, so give me more

Through my tired eyes I phase out the rain
With a meditation, I erased my pains
There's a rythym flowing through every vein
And the melody is never ending

I have a spirit indestructible
A heart that loving was made for
A body that's a miracle

I have a spirit indestructible
A heart that was made pure
Unbreakable and that's for sure
Unshakeable, so give me more

A-E-I-O-U

And though they may, and though they may
Take you away, take you away
You'll never break, you'll never break
Break

And though they may, though they may
Take you away, take you away
They'll never break, they'll never break
You

I have a spirit indestructible
A heart that loving was made for
A body that's a miracle

I have a spirit indestructible
A heart that was made pure
Unbreakable and that's for sure
Unshakeable, so give me more

DOPE: "Chaiyya Chaiyya" from "Dil Se" (1998)

It is crazy that one of my all-time favorite Hindi film songs comes from a movie I cannot stand?!? Yeah, it's crazy, but I had to start 2013 with what I think is one of the DOPEST of the DOPE Bollywood numbers. I hope you all will enjoy "Chaiyya Chaiyya" with the lyrics with english translation courtesy of BollyWhat.com.

jinke sar ho ishq kii chha.nh
He whose head is in the shadow of love
pao.n ke niiche jannat hogi
will have heaven beneath his feet.
jinke sar ho ishq ki chha.nh
Whose head is in the shadow of love...

chal chhaiyya
Walk in the shadow.
pao.n jannat chale chal chhaiyyan
Walk in heaven, walk in the shadow.

vo yaar hai jo khushbuu kii tarah
There's a friend who is like a sweet fragrance,
jiskii zabaan Urdu kii tarah
whose words are like poetry (lit. Urdu, the language of poetry),
merii shaam raat merii qainaat
who is my evening, my night, my existence.
vo yaar mera saiyya saiyya
That friend is my beloved!

chal chhaiyya
Walk in the shadow.
pao.n jannat chale chal chhaiyyan
Walk in heaven, walk in the shadow.

gulposh kabhii itarae kahii.n
Sometimes my beloved flirts like a flower,
mahake to nazar aa jaa'e kahii.n
so fragrantly that you may see her scent.

taawiiz banake pahanuu.n use
Having made it into an charm, I will wear it.
aayat kii tarah mil jaaye kahin
She shall be obtained as a miracle is obtained.

mera nagama vahii.n mera qalama vahii.n
She is my song, my declaration of faith
vo yaar hai jo imaam ki tarah
My friend is like a priest to me.
mera nagama nagama mera qalama qalama
My song... my declaration of faith...
yaar misale.n os chale
She moves like the dew.
paon ke tale phirdaus chale
She walks with the garden of heaven beneath her feet,
kabhii Daal Daal kabhii paat paat
sometimes through the branches, sometimes amidst the leaves.
mai.n hawa pe DHuu.nDHuu.n us ke nishaan
I shall search the wind for her trail!

chal chhaiyya
Walk in the shadow.
pao.n jannat chale chal chhaiyyan
Walk in heaven, walk in the shadow.

mai.n uske ruup ka sedaaii
I trade in her beauty.
vo dhuup chhaa.nho.n sa harjaaii
Fickle, she flits shamelessly from sun to shade.
vo shokh ra.ng badalta hai
She changes her bright colors;
mai.n ra.ng ruup ka saudaaii
I negotiate that as well.
