Let's Talk Tresses Friday: How Often Do YOU........?????

When first embarking on a natural hair journey, it can seem like there are tons of "rules" to adhere to, and in the interest of making sure your hair is well taken care of, you may want to follow them like gospel. I know that was the case for me, and I am sure many of you felt the same way starting out.

After a while, I realized it's about taking their advice and using it to formulate a regimen that is specific for YOU... based on your hair's needs. There is really no uniform, universal way to maintain our hair, because each of us have various hair types, challenges and needs.

How often do you wash, co-wash and deep condition your hair?

How often do you trim your ends?

I bet our answers will be as diverse as our hair textures and colors!!! Leave a comment, and let's talk about your regimen and how it works for you.

  1. I wash every week or every other week as needed. I don't really co-wash. I tried it a few times but I didn't really like it. I trim my ends as needed. . .when I notice a lot of ragged ends or excessive tangling down there. And I deep condition maybe once a month.

I also don't follow any sort of regime. . I just do what feels right. . .when it feels right. I'm more of a go with the flow kind of girl

  2. Hey sis!! You are right, when we first start out, there are somethings we follow not knowing it depends on our hair needs...Most of the things I used to do when I first started out are inexistent in my present regimen.

I wash and deep condition my hair once every week in the Summer and once every 3 weeks in the colder to cooler months

I started out by telling myself I would trim every 3 months but I stopped however I will be starting again and doing a search and destroy once every 3 months by the grace of God!

I have heard and tried so many things but now I'm glad I finally have MY own regimen and I believe that's the biggest step in a natural hair journey, apart from loving and accepting your hair of course!

    Great post sis!

  3. @ HappytobeNappy I feel you on the co-wash, my hair doesn't seem to dig it either!!

@Funbi's Yes! My regimen has greatly simplified since starting my journey and my hair has been thanking me for it immensely! LOL Thanks so much for stopping by!

  4. Yes, I remember the day when I was jumping on every bandwagon and eager to try any & every new product out there. Lol. It was all a learning process. And is mostly laughable now. These days, I definitely listen to and follow queue's from my own hair.

I used to co-wash once a week and wash once a month. Now that I work out consistently, I tend to wash my hair twice a month or more, depending on how hard I've sweated. I deep condition everytime I wash. It's a must for my hair.

I do the search & destroy method maybe twice a year. And get a professional trim once a year, maybe twice depending on when I get my hair blown out. I definitely don't put scissors to my hair often.

I can't really say that I have a hair regimen. I really just go with the flow.

  5. @ C.O. - Yes, girl!!! I definitely am at a point where I spend more time listening to my hair rather than listening to the experts!

  6. Yeah, I was very confused too in the beginning. Not until recently did I start listening to my hair. I honestly don't have a strict regimen. I just do what is needed for my hair at the moment. However, like CO, a deep conditioning is a must for me evevry time I wash my hair. Since I cut off my colored ends in April of this year, I have not had the need to trim. But I will if necessary.

  7. @ Tinuke - I think we all come to a point where we begin listening to what our hair needs. Perhaps it's part of the journey, seeking outside guidance at first and using that information to formulate what works for you.
